Manuel Mendive Hoyo (Havana, 1944), winner of Cuba’s National Plastic Arts Award (2001), studied at the San Alejandro National School of Visual Arts.
With an extensive body of work, his contribution has generated a singular and avant-garde experience in themes such as raciality, cultural and religious resistance of African heritage within the insular, Caribbean and American art of the middle of the last century and its continuation in the present.
In addition to Mendive’s workshop at Finca Manto Blanco in Tapaste, his work can be seen in his studio in Havana, in the town of Vìbora.
